23 August 2006, 16:33:44 (561 clicks) Sanur’s only social foundation - Yayasan Pembangunan Sanur (YPS), will organize the Sanur Village Festival from 25 – 27 August 2006. The three-day-long festival promises an event full of fun activities as well as leisure business oriented programs hoping to bring back the spirit of Sanur as Bali’s first tourist destination. It is expected that the Sanur Festival will become a yearly event launching its first year in 2006. “Sanur Village Festival will be a platform in positioning Sanur as a safe tourist destination, the festival will intertwine the roots of the community’s lifestyle, arts and culture with the vast development of modernization. Sanur Village offers tranquility and serenity, different to most tourist destination in Bali, and as villagers of this particular place, we have the responsibility to continuously develop the area without leaving behind the true essence of Sanur Village life” expressed Ida Bagus Sidhartha Putra, chairman of Yayasan Pembangunan Sanur.
Each of the events is a mix of traditional activities highlighting Bali’s rich cultural heritage, creativity and yet combining the modern requirements of travelers in today’s modern world. One ambassador of friends of Indonesia base in Jakarta is scheduled to open the festival, marked by traditional performances and followed by a bus trip city tour and fun bike excursion visiting some of the unique cultural heritages within the vicinity.
Other activities and events marked in the calendar include a cooking competition by IJUMPI (Ikatan Juru Masak Profesional Indonesia) participated by a number of chefs from hotels and restaurants in Bali. Water sports is hot on the agenda during the festival showcasing water sports competition held along the Sanur Beach such as wind surfing, beach volleyball, underwater festival and jukung (traditional sail boat) festival, a tennis tournament, golf tournament and kite festival and parade.
A festival in Sanur would be incomplete without expressing and showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the village itself. Cultural events during the festival include a painting exhibition in three different galleries in Sanur, daily traditional dance performances, a jazz festival and karaoke competition.
Besides the sights and sounds of Sanur, it would be incomplete without showcasing the rich variety of international and local cuisine one encounters when visiting this village. Daily during the festival, a food festival and bazaar will take place at Grand Bali Beach Cottages Area where approximately 20 of Bali’s best restaurant will be presenting their specialties in a spectacular setting. Set to be a fun family weekend, the event provides endless food stalls and children’s arena with entertainment, clowns, face painting, bouncy castle, games and a cartoon exhibition. Chill out sessions, live band and entertainment will accompany the entire setting.
Sanur Village will definitely be the place to be from 25 – 27 August 2006 as the entire village celebrates this special occasion. Shops, restaurants and participating companies along the entire streets of Sanur will offer special discounts and value for money surprises for every shopper and traveler alike.
Before the end of the entire festival, a cleaning campaign will be held to clean up the Sanur Beach, socializing to the local community about the waste treatment system at the same time installing trash cans at several spots along the streets and the importance of a clean and healthy environment in supporting the tourism industry.
The festival will be brought to an end by a colossal dance performance from Sanur. Most of the activities and events during the festival will be centered at two locations, the Sanur Beach and the Grand Bali Beach Cottages Area.
“This is the first Sanur Village Festival, the entire committee and event organizers are preparing it to become a successful event marking it as one of the reasons to visit Bali. We hope to attract 10,000 visitors from all over Bali as well as attracting tourists who are holidaying at the same time” expressed Gus De Sidartha, a wish that could simply be achieved.
