International Yacht Race ‘’seaBALI’’, Contingent Destined for Bali’s Shores

Sail Indonesia is an exclusive international yacht race that has been organized to expose the potential of Indonesia as a quality destination as well as strengthen ties between participating nations. This regional race will begin in Darwin – Australia on 22nd July 2006 and venture into the coastal waters of the Indonesian archipelago to eventually finish in Langkawi – Malaysia.

A total of 150 yachts from over 20 countries are scheduled to participate in Sail Indonesia. Ports of call along the way include the islands of Kupang, Alor, Riung, Bali and Karimunjawa. The yachts will stop at each destination for a well earned rest and learn a little about the socio-cultural character of these maritime areas.

Yachts are scheduled to arrive in Bali’s waters on 16th September 2006 and will dock at Serangan Island. A temporary yacht club will be established especially for the event and participants will have the opportunity to experience tourist facilities such as hotels, restaurants and shopping outlets.

It is planned that participating yachts will spend approximately 11 days during the trip on the island of Bali. Local organizer for the program of activities throughout this period of time is PT. Khrisna Inter Visi Media under the committee title seaBALI.

The vision of seaBALI is to introduce all participants and their support teams to the diverse beauty and unique cultural attributes of Bali. It is hoped that this event will assist Bali to recover from a series of tragic circumstances that have severely impacted on the entire tourism industry.

Whist in Bali participants of Sail Indonesia will spend quality time exploring the regencies of Tabanan and Bangli touring agricultural villages, Hindu temples and socially interacting with the local people. They will also have the opportunity to attend the Bali Movie Night – screen documentary and The Commemoration of 100th anniversary of Puputan Badung.

This is a significant event in local history where the Balinese royal family of Denpasar led over a 1000 people to march to their deaths in a bloody suicidal protest against Dutch colonization. SeaBALI also present seaBALIPesta Rakyat, seaBALI Movie Nights and seaBaliBazaar of Bali best products, open for all participants and visitors to eventful program.

The seaBALI executive committee has also organized a colorful party and farewell for the yachts as they depart Bali and journey on to the next destination. A procession of traditional Balinese fishing boats accompanied by a Gong performance group will personally escort the yachting contingent as they sail out of the territorial waters of the Island of the Gods.

Sail Indonesia is an annual race that has become a much anticipated event on the world yachting calendar. It is the biggest event of its kind in Asia and in recent years has helped to showcase Indonesia’s cultural diversity and genuine hospitality.
