Bali needs to have Data Base

Bali has to have a complete data on accommodation and Bali’s potentiality. Until present time, there is no real data yet about the numbers of hotels’ rooms, tourism accommodation facilities, and Bali’s complete potentiality. The data on hotels, villas which are mostly published are data based on estimation.

“I don’t think I can rely upon the real data about the number of tourism accommodation facilities in Bali,” stated the vice chief of Indonesian Hotels and Restaurants Association Branch Bali, I.B. Ngurah Kumbayana, on Tuesday (13/6). According to him, the growth of tourism accommodation in Bali could not be supervised. Many villas now operate like the way hotels do.

He stated, the government has to have a complete data on the potentiality and the numbers of tourism accommodation up to this time. “Without a complete database, it is impossible we can work optimally to have the best result,” he stated. A complete database on Bali will give a clear picture what tourism practitioners are dealing with, in terms of the problems and how they solve them.

Without the database, we will often speculate in solving problems, which are far from expectations. Too many speculations mean many faults we will do. This is just a waste of time and money. “In my opinion, Bali tourism does not recover yet. We indeed try to recover Bali but the result is not yet optimal,” he emphasized.
Furthermore, when he was asked about the increasing numbers of villas in Bali, he said that there should be clear rules in advance. ”Villas in Bali have caused the occupancy rate of hotels in Bali decreased 10 to 15 percent from the expected value. The worst part is up to this time, there is no policy and definition of villa which regulate this type of accommodation in Bali. Therefore, the policy and definition of villa are urgent matters.

The government and House of Representatives as the policy makers should be aware on this problem. “We do not make fuss towards the villa owners to have their hands in tourism business, we only urge for the regulation,” he stated. A clear regulation is important to create a sportive competition.
