The predominant fish species targeted in Bali waters are Yellow Fin Tuna, Blue and Dog Tooth Tuna, Spanish Mackerel, Wahoo, Mahi-Mahi, Rainbow Runner and Giant Trevally. Runs to the south coast of Lombok Island bring the angler 'face to bill' with the Black Marlin. Occasionally Sail Fish are hooked up around the Candi Dasa area.

A favorite spot for Spanish Mackerel, Wahoo and big Tuna species is Nusa Penida Island. Fishing beneath the 100 meter sheer cliff faces is quite an awesome experience. Incredible ladder systems win crevice to crevice until they reach the foot of the cliffs where the agile fishermen or gatherer plies his trade. During the wet season early December to late March majestic waterfalls grace the whole south coast.

These 'close to the wall' situations are favorite locations for the Giant Trevally, up in the 20 - 30 kgs range. Sea conditions on average favor the fisherman because the increased chop also high tens fish activity. Big Spanish Mackerel, Wahoo and Dog Tooth Tuna love the ledges and drop-offs that surround the coast, therefore running baits wide out on the outriggers makes a tempting target for these big predators. Out from the south western tip of Bali and following the bait fish schools, lurk the big Yellow Fin Tuna. When the fish are 'on', the whole ocean is alive, Dolphin pods feed hungrily off the bait schools while birds kamikaze into the frenzy. Trolling the perimeters of these schools brings some of the best action.
